Το βιβλίο που έχει συζητηθεί όσο κανένα άλλο τον τελευταίο καιρό, είναι αναμφίβολα "Το μάτι του βοριά" της Χρυσηίδας Δημουλίδου. Για να είμαστε πιο ακριβείς, είναι ένα βιβλίο που οι συζητήσεις γύρω από αυτό ξεκίνησαν αρκετό καιρό πριν ολοκληρωθεί η συγγραφή του, με πολλούς αναγνώστες να το περιμένουν με αγωνία, όντας φανατικοί αναγνώστες της συγγραφέως, και άλλους τόσους να το πολεμάνε χωρίς καν να έχουν πλήρη και ολοκληρωμένη άποψη γι' αυτό.
Βέβαια, το φαινόμενο αυτό δεν με εξέπληξε ιδιαίτερα, αφού η κυρία Δημουλίδου και τα βιβλία της πάντα καταφέρνουν να "ανάβουν τα αίματα", με τον έναν ή τον άλλο τρόπο. Φυσικά, δεν θα μπορούσα να μην παρασυρθώ από το έκρυθμο κλίμα και τις αντικρουόμενες κριτικές, και να μην το διαβάσω. Εκτός του ότι πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο διαφορετικό απ' όσα έχει γράψει μέχρι σήμερα η συγγραφέας, η ίντριγκα πάντα σε προκαλεί να την ακολουθήσεις.
Έχουμε, λοιπόν, να κάνουμε με την ιστορία του Δάμου, ενός άντρα που η ζωή του ήταν πλούσια και γεμάτη περιπέτειες, μια ζωή με τα πάνω και τα κάτω της, στιγμές μεγαλείου αλλά και ανέχειας. Ξεκινώντας την πορεία του από την Θεσσαλονίκη όπου και γεννήθηκε, και στιγματισμένος από τον θάνατο της μητέρας του όταν ήταν ακόμα παιδί -και μεγαλώνοντας με έναν πατέρα από τον οποίο δεν εισέπραξε ποτέ αγάπη και τρυφερότητα-, ο Δάμος ανακαλύπτει πολύ νωρίς τις χαρές τις ενεργής σεξουαλικής ζωής , αλλά και συνειδητοποιεί την δύναμη που του προσφέρει το τέλειο παρουσιαστικό του και η φλογερή -στο κρεβάτι και όχι μόνο- προσωπικότητά του. Από την Θεσσαλονίκη στην Αθήνα και τα κοσμικά σαλόνια, και από εκεί στον πάτο για να βρεθεί στη Μύνοκο χτίζοντας μια νέα ζωή, ο Δάμος ταξιδεύει στον κόσμο, γνωρίζει ανθρώπους καθώς και τη ζωή της δεκαετίας του '80 και το '90, για να καταλήξει να γνωρίσει τον ίδιο του τον εαυτό και να επιλέξει ποιος θέλει να είναι.
Οφείλω να ομολογήσω πως όταν ολοκλήρωσα την ανάγνωση του συγκεκριμένου βιβλίου, ένιωθα ιδιαίτερα μπερδεμένη. Όχι γιατί δεν μου άρεσε, αλλά επειδή μου άρεσε τόσο που δεν ήμουν σίγουρη πως ακριβώς έπρεπε να το διαχειριστώ ώστε να εκφράσω την άποψή μου. Χωρίς καμία απολύτως αμφιβολία, "Το μάτι του βοριά" δεν ήταν αυτό που περίμενα. Ήταν κάτι περισσότερο, κάτι καλύτερο, κάτι πολύ πιο δυνατό που μίλησε στην καρδιά μου.
